Whereas Christian's dolls began with an actual purpose, they now bear the burden of unconventionality. Fertility dolls are eons old artifacts that represented not only procreation but hope. These current works echo that aspiration and transcend themselves into what we now call art. Art which is tactile and inviting somehow protected by the wall plane; increasing the viewers' curiosity. Elements of comfort and sentimentality reside in these dolls while shape and media challenge the viewers contemporary perception of dolls, art and design. Beautiful fabrication, antique touches, and recycled stuffing result in a modern day talisman that represents hope, comfort and creative prosperity.
